Bringing Conservation Issues into the Zoo

The first Conservation Ambassadors started their volunteer work in the Zoological Garden Frankfurt in Summer 2006. At the moment the group consists of more than 40 volunteers with plans this year to increase numbers. The Ambassadors use their zebra-striped Info-mobile containing games, experiments and other interesting show-and-tell objects to give fascinating insights into biological diversity and nature conservation. They are present at many Zoo-promoted activities such as the Campfire evenings for children or the Biological Diversity Week, which was initiated in 2007.

Volunteers who would like to become Conservation Ambassadors take part in an intensive training seminar. During several workshops, volunteers learn about the Zoological Garden, its species preservation policy and the Zoological Society and its nature conservation strategy. The ambassadors are then accessible on highly frequented times in the Zoo (weekends and public holidays) to impart information regarding conservation themes involving tigers, black rhinos, lion tamarins, the Serengeti and bird species diversity. Information regarding great apes and bearded vultures will be available in the near future.

JOIN IN!

For those of you interested in biological and conservation issues, who enjoy relaying information about animals and conservation to other people and who have time to regularly man an Info-mobile or be part of other activities, then you are perfect for the Conservation Ambassadors.

Please feel free to contact us if you would like more information on becoming a Conservation Ambassador. The next seminar commences in Autumn 2008 and positions are limited.
